Amit Dixit will head private equity in Asia for $63 billion Blackstone Group

Amit Dixit was named this week as the head of Blackstone’s Private Equity business in Asia. Blackstone, a New York based fund manager, invests $212 billion in private equity assets around the globe.

Overall, Blackstone manages a total of $649 billion for pension funds, university endowments and other institutions, of which $196 billion is invested in real estate, $159 in credit and insurance and $82 billion in hedge funds. Listed on the New York Stock exchange, it has a market value of $63 billion.

From 2006 to 2020, Blackstone reportedly invested about $15.2 billion in India, including in private equity, real estate and tactical deals. Last month, outbidding competing funds and businesses, it bought Piramal Glass, owned by Indian billionaire Ajay Piramal, for about $1 billion, according to vccircle.

While reporting on Dixit’s new role. The Wall Street Journal noted that Dixit helped make India into Blackstone’s best-performing market in terms of returns. This was because of deals like its purchase of a majority stake in Mphasis, an information-technology services provider, from Hewlett Packard Enterprise in 2016.

Amit Dixit is co-Head of Asia Acquisitions and Head of India for Blackstone Private Equity. He joined Blackstone in 2007.

Dixit serves as a Director of Mphasis, TaskUs, Aadhar, Essel Propack, Aakash Education, Sona Comstar, IBS Software, Jagran Prakashan and Mid-Day Infomedia. He was previously a Director of Intelenet Global Services, Trans Maldivian Airways, Igarashi Motors India, S.H. Kelkar and Emcure Pharmaceuticals.

Earlier, Dixit was a Principal at Warburg Pincus, a New York based private equity group which manages more than $60 billion.

He received an MBA from Harvard, an MS in Engineering from Stanford University, and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai. At IIT, he was awarded the Director’s Silver Medal for graduating at the top of his program.
