Kerala and Keralites: The Promises and Challenges is a collectiion of essays and interviews, first published in the Global Indian Times. They analyze the state’s major job creators: migrant work in the Persian Gulf, tourism and nursing education, and farming of coconuts and rubber. Also, included are profiles of economists and researchers, policy makers, business founders, CEOs, those in the arts, and Sanju Samson, a rare Keralite who is a leading cricketer.
P.K. Michael Tharakan is Chair, Centre for Socio-economic and Environmental Studies, Kerala. Earlier, he was the Vice Chancellor of Kannur University, Kerala.
Priya Menon is a Professor of English and Director, University Honors Program, at Troy University, Alabama, US. A Fulbright Scholar, she has written on migration, gender, and culture in Kerala, including the impact of Keralite migration to the Persian Gulf.
Olle Tornquist Professor, Political Science and Development Research, University of Oslo, Sweden. His research focuses on waves of democracy and develop;ment of rights. His field work has been in India, mainly Kerala, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
