Last week, Vikram Beri reportedly tried to start a fire at Garrod Farms Estate Winery & Stables in Saratoga, California. When confronted by the winery staff, Beri threw a wine bottle and fled in a Tesla. He intentionally crashed into two parked cars, sending one over an embankment, according to a social media post by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office.
Beri then drove his Tesla off the embankment and refused to surrender to the police, despite their several attempts. The police used pepperball and spray, eventually forcing Beri to crawl out of the car.
Beri, 42-years-old, was arrested and taken to a hospital for evaluation. He was to be booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. The incident is under investigation, the Sheriff’s office noted.
A six-bedroom house in Menlo Park, where Beri resides, is estimated to be worth $6.6 million according to The Daily Mail. Menlo Park is a town near Saratoga in Santa Clara County which is part of the area known as Silicon Valley.
Since 2009, Beri has been Executive Director, Business Development, at FieldKing, which sells ploughs, harvesters, sprayers, and other farm equipment, through 1,500 dealers in 106 countries. He “has been the force behind Fieldking’s expanding (Indian) and global footprint,” the company’s website notes. Earlier, Beri worked at Deloitte Consulting.
Fieldking is the brand name for Beri Udyog Private Ltd, which was founded in 1978 by Beri’s late father Prakash Chand Beri. The company’s head office is based in Karnal, near Delhi, India.
In 2016, Beri founded BetterLYF, an online mental health therapy service, based in Delhi. According to its website, LYF has a team of 26 psychologists who treat patients facing relationship problems with spouses and others, lack of confidence, stress at work, depression, trauma, gay and lesbian identity, and other issues. The psychologists speak English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and other Indian languages.
Online therapy sessions is a big help for Indians since they like to keep psychological issues private, Beri told Rediff in 2018. Indians “fear being judged…If you have to tell someone that you’re seeing a counselor or shrink, people will immediately ask what’s wrong with you.”
“When you are stressed out or are anxious, you develop an irrational thought,” Beri added. “That irrational thought is something that you really need to work on…The typical Indian male is supposed to be tough, not cry and not express himself.”
Beri earned an MBA in Marketing from the Indian School of Business, 2010-2011, and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, 2004-2007.
Beri told Rediff.com, that while he joined FieldKing, the family business, he “was always very excited about psychology…I found helping people out a very satisfying experience.”
